Global Read Aloud Skype

We have an appointment every Friday with our friends from Massachusetts. We look forward to seeing them at 12:00 to discuss our GRA book- Marty McGuire . This week we talked about our favorite part of the book and discussed connections we made while reading. Our friends told us how they connected the book to themselves, to another text and to the world. We love learning that our friends from near Boston like the same things we like! Looking forward to next Friday!!

Fourth Grade Survey

This week our very own BCE fourth graders came to our class to take a survey. It was so exciting because they are working on a PBL project about new types of soda. And WE got to vote on our favorite flavor.
One of our favorites was Vanilla Chocolate!!!! Thank you Fourth Graders for including us in your PBL!

We have a "Treasure"

This week we talked about ways to retell a story using our own hand! We are using this tool as we read stories to tell details that happened. We wanted to share our tool! We will also be using this "Tool" as we write stories with details!

A Special Visit!!!

We have had an incredible week!!!
We had a VERY special surprise visit from "NANA" ----my mother!   My mother came to class last week to surprise us~and we were happily surprised!  As she walked in,  I asked if the students knew who this was?.........AND many hands were raised as they said,
"This is YOUR mother!"  I asked how they knew?  "You have the same hair color,  same eyes, same skin, same earrings, same necklace, same ring, same of many things...."  Of course we only had a few of the 'same things'......But it only is an example of the legacy we leave for our own children.  And I am proud to say that I have an incredible legacy!  Thank you Mom for coming to visit!

Special Guest Readers

We always love having our 2nd Grade Special Guests come to our class!  These are students that usually were previous students in my classroom that love to come back and read to our class!  They are so proud to demonstrate what a "great reader they have become"!!! WE LOVE having them in our room! Many times, they share their 1st grade experience and how to become a great 2nd grader and BCE good citizen!  We look forward to our next "Special Guest"!

Rocks and Soil

We have been observing the 3 types of soil----sandy soil, clay soil and potting soil.  WE ARE Scientists that investigated and recorded the items that are in soil.  We discovered that all types of soil include rocks, humus (dead plants and animals), water and air.
We also explored ways that soil is used around Bear Creek~~~brick, concrete, light post base, streets, tile walls, tile  walkways, and many other uses of rocks and soil!

Number Sense

We have been working on understanding numbers with our Number Sense Activities. We practiced number order on an Interactive 100 chart! We have had some difficulties with our Interactive White board .....we were so excited to be able to use it for practice!
