Veteran's Day 2014

Today, we have been learning about veterans and what it means to us in first grade! We were so amazed at the courage, bravery and loyalty that it means to be a veteran and serve our great country. We all were able to share about anyone we knew that serves or had served our country and we felt so proud to know or remember them! As we were preparing to attend Bear Creek's Veteran's Day program, we were surprised and honored to see Jacob's dad, Mr Hahne! We want to thank Mr Hahne for visiting our class and taking time answer our many questions. Thank you Mr Hahne and all Veterans for serving our country and keeping us safe!!

Balanced Equations

We have been working on equal sides in an addition equation! We always learn so much more when we are working cooperatively in partners or groups!

Global Read Aloud

As we are reading the Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, we are talking about feelings and caring for others! Edward learned to love and care in a very tough way. We make predictions, infer and use our schema to create mental images of the story. We absolutely love connecting with our friends from Boston! Last Friday, we discussed our favorite name for Edward and why we made that choice. We also listened as our Boston friends shared letters they wrote to characters in the story! We loved hearing ideas our friends share!! Thank you Ms Klipfel's class!!!

International Dot Day

Today we joined the world in reading The Dot by Peter Reynolds. A great book of encouragement and motivation! We loved it! We even got to sing a song about it!

We celebrated by counting M&Ms by 10's, 5's, 2's and 1's. We. Decided it was much easier to count when we grouped them by 10's!!

We discussed the type of person we would like to become and a career that we could strive to attain!

WE ARE MAKING OUR MARK!!
